Matt Holmes has been working in the cloud since its conception and infancy (when it was still just known as the internet!). However, after 10 years in the industry, as a speaker, consultant, entrepreneur, and developer he has realised that for most people it’s still a fog! He has decided therefore, to put his experience and expertise to good use by forming The Cloud Execs – a group of independent cloud-based entrepreneurs who can guide, explain and help you implement the whole range of cloud services in order to benefit from the cost and efficiency savings they provide.
Previously, Matt Holmes was a founder, original architect and MD of UK-based cloud accounting pioneer, Liquid Accounts Ltd. Matt led the company through three rounds of investment, winning several accolades along the way including, HMRC, ICAEW (Institute of Chartered Accountants) and ICB (Institute of Certified Bookkeepers) accreditation, plus awards for Best Web-Hosted Accounting Software and Best Small Business Accounting Software. Matt himself has won Young Businessperson of the Year (at the age of 40!) and a 42 Under 42 award for Best Emerging Business. He remains a shareholder in Liquid Accounts.
He was founding Chair of the Cloud Computing Special Interest Group for BASDA (the Business Application Software Developers’ Association) and is on the Governing Body of the Cloud Industry Forum. As such, he has been at the forefront of creating industry standards and guidelines for the newly-emerging field of online software, and is a regular guest speaker and expert for the ICAEW (Institute of Chartered Accountants), ACCA, (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants), CIMA (Chartered Institute of Management Accountants), the IT Industry Association, CompTIA, the international accounting alliance, Praxity, plus various trade and industry shows. He has chaired at the World Cloud Forum and has taken part in panel discussions at events such as the Business Cloud Forum.
Prior to setting up Liquid Accounts, Matt was (the youngest ever) Director of IT for a law firm in London and worked with Companies House on its Electronic Filing Gateway, and with HMRC on its VAT Filing Committee. He was one of the first developers in the UK to have his online company formation software approved by Companies House. In this role he regularly spoke at conferences in the US alongside Companies House.
